Market Inspiration

Have Mercy, Novembers for me are unbelievable. Packed FULL of great things but keep us busy, busy, busy....Our Anniversary, The hubs birthday, my birthday, My toddlers birthday not to mention the 10 other immediate family birthdays, Thanksgiving and the list goes on!!! Today was one of those days. We got in late from Market in Atlanta last night. I got up bright and early to CLEAN my poor neglected house for company tonight. We had my family over for my 3 year old's birthday. And Y'all I wanted to cry when she went to bed because she handed me her "passy"(pacifier) and her little "BeBe"(blankie) and told me she didn't need it anymore, she was a BIG girl now. Tears... I can't believe she actually fell asleep!!

Well, market for me was a first. I was so excited to get to experience it for the first time as a new buyer, but by the end of the day, each day, I thought someone was going to have to carry me out on a stretcher. I was exhausted and my feet were killing me, but it was a BLAST!! I was so overwhelmed, I didn't know which way to go first. It was Immediate Delivery so all the showrooms had samples in the hallway that you could buy and take home. They also had "cash and carry" on Tuesday which was craziness all by itself. The women...Oh my goodness...the women....They were EVERYWHERE with huge rolly bags, knocking over anyone and everyone who DARED get in their way...I could only stand about 30 minutes of that. They had bags and jewelry galore, home accessories, food...you name it. These were temporaries set up to sell wholesale to shop owners. I did get some 1500 thread count Egyptian cotton sheets for 40.00. Score! I was pretty excited about that because my dog just chewed a whole in my top sheet...

Market for me was like going to a fashion show...I couldn't afford what they had to offer but I could certainly come home and "mimic" the look. One show room there, in Building One, was J Douglas. I thought my mom would never get me out of there! I could have moved in....permanently. I got some great ideas about furniture finishes. Right now the Light "limed" or "pickled" look is the "hot" item. I saw it in every furniture showroom I was in. I took all of these pictures at J Douglas. I even took them with my I phone, believe it or not. I was pretty impressed! I have never actually used a picture from my camera phone but it worked out well since I didn't have my SLR.

See how light and washed this is? Who could hurt this? My kids could beat this up and it would still look fabulous!!

This was my favorite dining chair. EVERYTHING was covered in Linen. This is the first finish I am going to try and copy because I love these chairs!!!

I thought this was really cool. Someone PLEASE copy this and show it to me at our linky party. This reminds me of Miss Mustard Seeds Sheet Music Wreath with a twist. It is actually wooden, flat sticks with a white wash. The sticks almost look like long wooden shims. That's the best way I can describe the thickness. There are black numbers stenciled on them and then they are attached to a round board in the back. It looks like all they did was glue a craft mirror in the center. Clever! and very cool!! The picture is a little blurry.

Saving the best for last. I cannot WAIT to do this project. I thought this made such a cool statement. I am going to do this in my kitchen and put all of the different street addresses we have had as a family on them. Isn't this just awesome?!?!?

Okay, so I have my work cut out for me because this is not the half of what I saw. I am going to try and "mimic" these finishes and when I get them perfected I'll give a tutorial....
Love Y'all!!! Night, Night!!

  1. Lots of great ideas. Love the linen chair. The limed look on the wood is great too. I've been wanting to try some liming wax.
