MY BLOGGING DESK......OR NOT....

This desk has been in the basement for what seems like forever. However, it has come in very handy over the past few months. My kids have used it during all of the tornado warnings we have had this spring. I've been shoving them underneath it with their bike helmets on. I finally finished it though, so I guess I need to come up with another safe place. Anytime we hear a warning around here from now on, sheer panic will set in, I am sure. I have already been talking to my husband about building a safe room. I am serious too!

My vision for this desk came together well.  I know you have all seen the light bottom dark top a million times but  I just love it. I used Old White chalk paint, distressed the edges and then waxed it with a dark wax. I left the top with all of the imperfections only because I loved the character. I sanded it a little bit,  just to clean it up and then waxed it with my dark TLC wax.

This wax is great for cleaning up furniture because it has a little bit of mineral spirits in it, helping to break down the dirt and oils that may be ground in. When I was through waxing, it had a smooth, cleaned up finish without having to re stain. Thanks to some of you who helped me remember where I got this wax,  I was able to get a new jar last week. You can find it here. It is  made and sold right here in my own backyard! Well...not literally, but in Birmingham.

I moved it up to my bedroom and was going to use it as my blogging desk slash night stand. I wanted to put a bulletin board with all of your sweet notes on it and use the drawers for my tagging supplies and other necessities. I lived with it for about 3 days and realized it was a little to chunky for my tiny bedroom. So today, off to the shop it went a long with its cute little french chair. Oh well.....another one will come along.

  6. Oh I love that desk and chair! I can't believe you're letting them go. Wish I lived a lot closer to you!
You're right about wanting a shelter. When my daughter lived in OK they had one that was built into their garage floor. And they used it! People never get over a disaster like those tornados. 40 years after the one in Ohio people still get nervous when a storm is coming in.
