CHINA CABINET = DONE

Oh boy, what a day! I started out the day at Stacey's studio to get a few supplies for my projects I am doing at Doran's house. Stacey just got back from a really cool event where she met the one and only Annie Sloan. I LOVED hearing all about it. And guess what? New colors are coming out sometime in August, one of them being a pure white. I got to see several of the colors and they are GORGEOUS. Stacey and I have something really, really, REALLY exciting for you that I will be sharing later on in the week, so make sure you stay tuned! I can't wait to spill the beans! So, I know I have been promising pictures of the china cabinet that I finished at Doran's. I finally remembered my camera today. Just so you remember the before, here is the picture again. It wasn't bad, just dated. And actually, with an all white palette, the white washed pickled wood would be beautiful minus the heavy hardware. This piece is Thomasville from the early 90's and just needed to be "Doranified". HA! I just made up a word.
Doran's home is lovely. She has done a great job making it her own. When she first moved in, it was in need of a lot of TLC. They have done most of the work themselves and it is really coming together.

 
The first thing I knew I wanted to do was remove the scrolly thing at the top. It could be painted but I thought it would look better taken out. I removed all of the hardware and took it home to mull it over.



I mixed several colors together to create my own custom color to blend better with her current wall color.  It's a combination of equal parts of Country Gray and Paris Gray Chalk Paint.  I painted the inside and the outside and instead of waxing, I went with the polyacrylilc. I like how it feels and I wanted it to be very durable.


Because Doran is drawn to metallic finishes, I decided to try a rose gold on her hardware. I used a metallic craft paint and then applied a metallic glaze on top to give them all some depth. They look amazing on the piece and blend beautifully with all of her other new things.





And oh my....I love her pretties in the cabinet. The Annie Glass is my favorite! What precious heirlooms.

 Next up is finishing her daughter's bed and dresser. Old white and some metallic accents are in order. I have loved every minute of being at Doran's. She has fed me lunch everyday, let me bring my kids when I don't have childcare and has treated me like family.  Thank you Doran!
