I've been experimenting a little bit with metallics. I got the itch when I saw the metallic beetle in a Traditional Home a few months back. Did anyone else see the fabulous metallic Benjamin Moore paint colors?
My starting point was an ugly Lane end table that belonged to my grandmother. It is extra heavy and in great shape, the finish was just not pretty. I used a mix of a few different colors that I had left over to come up with a gray putty color. After it dried I used a metallic craft paint that resembled rose gold. I brushed it on in the detail of the table and then stenciled a design in the center. I distressed it and then used a metallic glaze over that.
I staged it in my living room and now I don't know if I want to sell it. I think I'm going to live with it for a few weeks and then decide.
I also went to the new Lovelady Center thrift store today. For those of you who are here in Birmingham, it's in the old Circuit City Building off of Oporto Madrid in Crestwood. I found these cute mustard jars from England that I thought would make great flower vases. I have a hard time passing up anything that resembles brown and white transferware. These will be at the shop soon.
I'm finishing up the big china cabinet tomorrow for my friend Doran. Fingers crossed I have after pictures by tomorrow night. I am going to try so hard. I can't wait for you to see how great it looks. It has gone from early 90's pickled wood with black and gold iron accents to straight off the Ethan Allen showroom floor. It looks divine.....
What a pretty table. I think it looks great in your room with the gold lamp. I'm hosting a linky party and would love to have you join in. www.savedbysuzy.blogspot.com
