Magazineoholic

Hi, My Name is Kelli, and I am a magazineaholic... If there was an intervention for this, I might need it. If you come into my house on any given day, you can find them on my side tables, under my couch, in my closet, under the bed, in my car, in my garage, on my desk and yes..sometimes they land in the bathroom...TMI.. I know...
But Seriously, I LOVE them! Country Living, Southern Living, Veranda, Traditional Home, All of those pricey DIY magazines like "100 Budget Friendly Decorating Ideas"...Believe it or not I even pay the crazy 7.99 for Romantic Country every time it comes out and I don't even decorate like that! I just LOVE to look at it!!
Tonight I was thumbing through my 3 ring binder of all the things I have torn out of magazines that I love. I have had this "inspiration" picture for my dining room for a few years. I think it's a great idea when you are redecorating to find some pictures of things that you love, to help you with your room colors, and your furniture selection and layout. Once you have acquired these pictures, you can start figuring out how to achieve this "look" cheap and on a budget. Just because you are getting things at garage sales, tag sales, flea markets and estate sales, does not mean AT ALL that you have to sacrifice style.
I have scanned my wrinkled, old picture for you to see. It doesn't look so hot because it has been combed over and looked at a million times, but you get the idea.

I've already gotten the rug down and the dark brown table. You may remember from a previous post that I used my husbands grandmother's antique prints and her silver. I am using the parsons chairs that I slip covered for the end of my table and I am still on the hunt for some pretty, leggy chairs to go around it. I did find this sideboard the other day. I am hoping it will work because it's smaller than the buffet. My dining room is a lot smaller than the one in this picture. We live in about 1100 square feet of space. Oh Yeah...Nice and Cozy...
This piece was so NASTY. It had mildew all over it, round heat rings, and LAYERS of dust. Today, I cleaned it really good, primed the bottom for paint and stained one top coat of General Finishes stain on the top. You're gonna have to give me a break on the picture. Even good photographers make mistakes every now and then. ( wink, wink) I took one quick "before" picture and accidentally focused on the little pink rocker I need to re paint and all my junk in the background! Lesson learned..take more than one picture...

Come back tomorrow! Hopefully I will have this piece done and in place! I also have some curtain ideas..... Don't forget about my linky party starting on November22nd! Grab the image and the link on the side bar and spread the word!

Blessings,

  1. Kelli hopefully you have found your magazines at thrift stores. At the big saver thrift store in Hueytown they are 25 cents a piece.

  2. Oh my goodness, I have to laugh. If I were to ever get a divorce it would probably be over the endless piles of magazines. Seriously it's an awful addiction, but I love them too! ;)

  4. Hi Kelli, well with magazines I have one policy...giveaway, I like to take them to the hospital or Dr's office when I am finished, but like you I find many articles that I cannot part with, so for those I save the entire magazine. Can't wait to see your table re done, it looks fab as is, tami from the high street cottage

  5. Hi Kelli, my name is Amanda and I am a magazineaholic too...hee hee. I found a big box full of Country Living and Country Home magazines at a garage sale a couple of weeks ago! My husband was not thrilled with my purchase, but the woman's husband that was having the garage sale was sooo happy to see them go!

I can't wait to see your dining room with the new buffet!
