TEXTURED MIRROR

I've been experimenting with different mediums in my painting to try and get some different textured patterns. The chalk paint makes a great texture in itself, especially if you apply it in a cross hatching motion. I was reading a few weeks ago in one of Annie Sloan's books from the early nineties. She had used a piece of rolled up cardboard as a stamp. Instead of using it as a stamp, I used it in the paint to create a textured pattern.
Pardon the photography here. Apparently I focused on the black cabinet instead of the mirror. I'm still learning this camera! It's a little blurry.

I used Country Gray as the base coat. I put the paint on a little thicker all the way around the frame.

I rolled the piece of cardboard like this...........

and just played around in the Country Gray to create the texture. I used the circular part of the cardboard and used a twisting motion. After it dried completely, I dry brushed 1 part graphite to 3 parts old white, creating a color much like Paris Gray. I painted white in a lot of the details as well.

The gray was a little cold as you can see in the picture with the cardboard but once it wax waxed with clear and dark wax, it was perfect.

I'll be headed to Urban tomorrow to see about painting my new space. One step closer!
