THE WRIGHT FAMILY TREE

I've always wanted to decorate a magazine worthy tree. However, the reality is, I have room for one tree, and I am not willing to give up the traditions and memories that come with pulling out all of our collected ornaments from year after year. My girls can hardly stand the wait while I put on the lights.

We put on a little Christmas music, made some hot chocolate and the girls got to work......

Other than the burlap bows and my frosty hat, I let them do all of the work. They always enjoy getting out ornaments that my husband and I got when we got married such as these little Christmas mice.........

Some of my favorites are ones with all of our names on them, including my little Elijah......

and this one, given to us when Elijah was sick......

and this one that sits proudly at the top of our tree...................

I'll take this tree over magazine worthy any day.

What are your Christmas tree decorating traditions? I would love to hear them!

  1. I do agree... We are the very same in our home except my boys are 20 and 16 and still enjoy the collection of ornaments they've received throughout the years!

  2. Ours is similar. We have collected ornaments over the years. None of them match or go together or anything, but they are ours & they bring back good memories, so we still have the random, not magazine worthy tree.

  4. My children are all grown...so the childhood ornaments went with the ones that are married to put on their tree...we are getting closer to the magazine tree...I'm not happy about it, but it's part of life! Enjoy while you still have them :).
    Your tree is beautiful.

  5. Love the tree! My kids who are now 24, 22, 19, 17 still put their ornaments on...the ones I've given them year after year. I don't need anything else. It's not magazine perfect but perfect for us!!

  6. My children ae all grown, but they still love to stand and look at the ornaments that they made or inspired. I agree my tree is the same, not magazine worthy, but worthy for our family!

  8. I love the top hat on top of your tree. Very creative. My mom started a Christmas tradition that on Christmas eve, she would give everyone table gifts. She would decorate the table beautifully and then on each plate would be a small and personal gift to each person at the table. I always loved this idea and am now doing the same with my family!

  9. A magazine tree will never be a family tree, maybe it's beautiful to look at, but it doesn't bring the pang to the heart a family tree usually create. I always buy a real tree, so it's always a little irregular, leaning to the left or the right depending on the year, but I wouldn't want it any other way. Your tree looks perfect to me, especially since each ornament seems to be linked to a memory, whether sweet or painful.
