MIXING CHALK PAINT WITH ACRYLIC PAINT

A few months ago when I created the dresser for my bedroom, I stumbled upon what I think is one of my favorite chalk paint combinations. I painted the body of the chest with old white, the drawers with duck egg and the top graphite. It was complimented with some dark wax in random areas and gold gilding on the drawer edges.

I loved this combo so much I used it again on this sweet little night stand. The only problem was that I didn't have any more graphite and I couldn't get to Stacey's store that day. I decided to improvise and poured a little paris gray paint into a disposable bowl. I then began to add basic black acrylic paint that I use to paint on canvas. I added it until I got the same graphite color.

Paris Grey

EQUALS.......

A great graphite alternative.

( NOTE-  I did not add dark wax to the night stand top. The dresser DOES have dark wax on it hence the slight color difference.)

Now all this little piece needs is a new home! It is available at Homewood Antiques and Marketplace for 85.00.

  6. :) I just did that this week! I was wanting a softer color than duck egg, so I mixed in an aqua to the latex & chalk paint, and I loved it! The latex was a wall paint that was also in eggshell finish, so when the wax was done, it actually had a slightly more glossy finish...kinda intriguing to play around with it more! :) Love that 3 color combo too, great idea.
