Did ya'll miss me yesterday? I try really hard to blog every weekday but yesterday got the best of me. I am having trouble with a wisdom tooth and I couldn't concentrate on much but taking care of the fam and surviving. After some Advil, I feel a lot better today...
Today I thought I would show off what I finished this week. This girl was ALL used up. Remember her? She had been stepped on, chewed on, (most likely by a cat like Lucifer:) and sat on way too many times. I saw her sitting all lonely at a garage sale, being passed up because of her looks. She was in no shape to go any where or do anything else. I saw straight past all of that! All she needed was a paint job and and a new dress.
Here is how I did it. As you can see below, from trial and error, I figured out that the best way to redo legs on a stool is to remove them, place a piece of newspaper over the stool, and then put them back. This way you don't get any primer or paint on the fabrics and you have a nice and neat finish. It also gets the legs off the ground so you can paint all the way around them. When you are done, all you have to do is rip off the paper and tighten up the legs.
I had some toile linen/cotton blend fabric left over from one of my sister's pillow projects. It was just the right amount for this project. Slip-covering a stool like this is really easy.
I turned the stool upside down on the fabric and cut out a square leaving about 2" around each side. I turned the fabric wrong side up on top of the stool and then pin fitted the corners to make sure of a tight fit and to get the mitered edge. I then slipped it off and stitched the corners in place removing the pins as I went. I took extra strips of fabric about 3" wide, folded them in half and ironed it really good. I stitched all the strips together and then gathered them up in a ruffle. With rights sides together, I sewed them around the square I had made for the stool. I think it turned out great and I only spent $4.00. All the paints that I used were left overs from previous projects.

You may remember the dog or cat chewed leg. All I did was add a little Elmers white wood filler to all the holes and gauges, let it dry and then sanded it down with 220 grit sandpaper. I spray primed with my favorite Zinzer 1-2-3 primer and then used a cream color mis tint Valspar paint that I brushed on. I used about two coats. I also used a glaze called Cooper Adobe Brown that is Valspar as well. I brushed it on with a stippling brush and then took a dry paper towel and wiped most of it off.
Kelli: No need to apologize for not posting right away, we are all busy and I just appreciate you taking the time to comment and read my blog! I've not done much in the way of decorating posts in a while, just can't seem to find the time. Hopefully we can meet in person one day but until then I'll just continue drooling over your blog!
