I am so excited about this new adventure with my sweet Momma! I have so many irons in the fire right now but they are all good and God is good! I wanted to take this first post and introduce myself a bit to tell you a little about what this blog will be about. My name is Kelli Wright and I live in Birmingham, Alabama with my husband and two girls. Years ago, out of the necessity to decorate on a sensible budget, my mom got me hooked on restoring old pieces of furniture by just adding a little paint. It is amazing what paint can do. My brother in law always laughs and says, " Why do all of you have to paint everything?!" I think I love it because my kids can beat it up and I don'thave to worry about damage. I can just paint over it. I want my home to be comfortable and for people to feel like they can prop thier feet up on anything, and to be charming at the same time. I started going to garage sales with mom on Saturday mornings, realizing what great things were to be had! One of my first purchased items was a bedroom set for Les and I that I painted white. I was so proud of myself but the paint job was, well, lets just say, I didn't really know what I was doing. From there I learned about painting techniques, what types of paint and brushes to use, a little about faux finshing and I am still learning today. You can paint or redo just about anything.
So as I started to pray about this blog and our business name, the Lord reminded me of this old beat up buffet that I had gotten at our local thrift store. Nobody wanted it. It had been sitting there for months. The reason...it has a bum leg. To be quite honest, I made a rooky mistake and bought the piece without even noticing the leg. However, to my advantage, God used it to teach me something. This piece at one time was stunning. It has beautiful french lines, the top drawers are lined for holding silver, the patina on the hardware is beautiful, but life had taken it's tole on this beauty and it was now awaiting it's fate to be thrown out at the local dump. But I bought her. I combed her over well, thinking about what I could do to her to restore her to her full beauty. I am going to sand and stain the top a dark walnut and paint the bottom a creamy white with an antique glaze. The hardware will stay as is, it's beautiful..... and the legs, well...I have a plan for them as well.
Our lives are so much like this beautiful buffet. Some of us are more beat up than others from all the things that this life has thrown at us. But thank the Lord we have been"RESTORED." He sees us as we were meant to be. He takes all the broken pieces, all the hurt and all the pain, and restores us to our original beauty. He gives us all a fresh start, a clean slate and a purpose. (Read the book of John). So here is a picture of the old beat up buffet. I can't wait to finish it so that I can give you the big reveal!!! Stay tuned and please follow me so you won't miss a thing!!! Leave a comment too, so I know you were here!

Kelli Wright you never cease to amaze me! Only you could find a way to make a connection between beat up old furniture being restored & God's restoring love in our lives. You are truly an inspiration to us all to do EVERYTHING we do in a way that gives glory to God. You go girl!!
ReplyDeleteLove the header pictures, and I sew, and love white and wood, so I joined up via emails :) Have you done any faux Mercury Glass things? I've tried it with the Mod Podge blog's instructions and Mirror White spray paint. SO far, two nice vases :)
