I have a lot of paint on hand for various re -dos. I LOVE the lowes mistint section. I always check it out when I'm there because you can get great colors for a few bucks. I had some metal primer left over from a previous project. I used Rustoleum Spray Metal Primer. YOU MUST prime before you paint or the paint will not stick. I also taped the cords and the top of the lamp that I didn't want painted with painters tape so it would be nice and neat. It only took one coat of metal primer and then I brushed on a color that I love called "Sterling." It's a Lowes Valspar Color. After it dried I put a Valspar Antique Glaze over it to fill in the cracks and show some of the detail. I fitted it with a Homegoods Shade that my mom couldn't use and Voila! A 7.00 lamp!
After I got a bulb in it, and it was painted, I lit it and started freaking out because I thought it had a short. It kept dimming! Then I realized it was one of those touch lamps! It dims and gets brighter as you touch it! That was an extra bonus! So go out and find yourself a lamp to paint! You can do it! I know you can!! I will be sharing this redo for Transformation Thursday at the Shabby Chic Cottage and Thrifty Thursday on Bloggeritaville.
Wow! What a lovely transformation - it looks like a different lamp! Lamps are some of my favorite items to fix up too. I can't wait to see more of your projects.

FABULOUS!
ReplyDeleteAmanda and Elizabeth, Thanks for the comment! It's amazing what a little paint and a new shade can do! I hope you guys have had a fabulous week!
ReplyDeleteWait you painted it silver and it came out white with black undertones showing through?
ReplyDeleteCONFUSED.

P.S. I have these type of brassy looking lamps that I hate, but if I could get 'em looking shiny silver, or better yet Mercury glass looking, I'd be in ship shape!!!!!!!!!!
