RESCUED FRENCH CHAIR

Do y'all remember this chair? I had SERIOUS buyers remorse after paying a hefty 35.00 for this chair that had been eaten by a dog and had a huge hole in the caning.  It's been sitting in my basement for a month. I finished the paint job a while back but just couldn't seem to get started on the upholstery. Mostly because it scared me. I'm still learning and I was terrified to mess it up. I borrowed my Dad's compressor and I am in LOVE with it. It made things so much easier! I am already thinking of more projects I can do with this tool.

So what do ya think? It kind of has the Miss Mustard Seed look because I used that signature white trim she uses on her french chairs. It sure beat having to pipe around the whole thing.
I absolutely love the paint job. It turned out way better than I thought it would. I found an oops blue at lowes and painted on a solid coat. I dry brushed on a coat of white and then finished it with a glaze of watered down espresso beans paint. When I started to distress it with a 150 grit paper, the original cream popped through and it looks amazing.

It made the detail pop....

And you can't even tell that a dog was ever around.....

I'm going to have a hard time parting with this one!

  19. Hi Kelli ~ I've tried a few of these myself... I understand the scared feeling and the love of the new tool! Love the paint color. I haven't used the gimp - but always make the double welt... it's cheap and covers very well.
I'm new to your blog and to blogging.

  20. Kelli, that looks unbelievable! You could have fooled me to think it was done by Marian herself. I LOVE the frame of that chair, absolutely gorgeous. You did an excellent job with the upholstery. Once you go pneumatic, you never go back! Definitely invest in an air compressor and pneumatic staple gun for yourself. It will be life changing. I'm working on a re-upholstery tutorial right now that includes making your own double welting piping. It's actually a lot easier than it looks, and makes the finish look so professional. Come check it out in a few days if you're interested. Your trim looks gorgeous as is though! Great work :)
