MORE LAYERS

The layers in my family room are really starting to come together. It's amazing the warmth that is radiated from a room just by adding curtains, a rug and a few accessories. I don't want too much out anymore. The older I get, the simpler I want my living space to be. My homes have always been full of reds, yellows greens and other bright colors and patterns, but I obviously have thrown all of that out the window. I want calm, serene, simple.

It doesn't have to cost you a fortune to do things differently either, especially if you already have neutral furniture.  I am on a very tight budget. I don't have the option to just see it and buy it, but I prefer it that way. I like to have to think outside the box, scavenge for great deals and prove that it can be done on the cheap. Looking around this room you will find many garage sale picks and free or inherited pieces. One of my end tables was an 8 dollar yard sale find. It looks like a few hundred bucks after a coat of off white paint and a re stained walnut top. The other end table is inherited. The furniture is new but it had to be done because my other couch frame had broken. Even at that, I made sure to buy at discount, wholesale pricing from Barnett Furniture. And  no, they do not pay me a dime to say that they are AWESOME.

I pulled my dining room, Pottery Barn, sisal into the family room. I like it much better in there. The rug was free. I saved a bunch of gift cards and used a store credit from something we had gotten as a gift.
The tray table that I am using for a coffee table was 8.00 at yard sale and it got a chalk paint makeover. The mirror was inherited and my lamps are all yard sale finds except for one that I scored for 30 bucks at Home Goods. All my picture frames are yard sale finds for a few cents a piece. My planter on my door is a 5 dollar yard sale find. AH! And my flower vase on my tray table, my friend Rachel was getting rid of it and gave it to me.
The little basket weave table next to the chair was 5 bucks at an estate sale and my curtains are IKEA finds for 19 bucks....FOR THE PAIR!! They have that light linen feel to them without the linen price tag. The best thing about them is that they go to the ceiling creating drama and  the illusion of a higher ceiling and longer windows.

And nothing says home like fresh flowers. I have an obsession with having them all over the place. My oak leaf hydrangeas are on the coffee table and I have some store bought gerber daisies that came straight from Publix. I cut them down and put them in a small square vase for my side table.

Now to find art, an entry way table, and something for the media paraphernalia....
The cords are driving me CRAZY. I think I have an idea........

  6. Hi Kelli,
Your family room is gorgeous. I like the muted colors and the way you are using family pieces and garage sale finds. I've got to check out Barnett Furniture! I'm working on simplifying my home also and using much lighter colors, like white, creams and grays with just a hint of red. I hope to start showing some of it soon.

THANK YOU so much for featuring my buffet and basket. I was and still am thrilled. I also miss you guys. I check out your's and your mom's booth everytime I'm in Urban Suburban Pelham.

    Joyfully,
