Perserverance

Slipcover 101, Oh where are you?? I need a class!! If anyone knows of ANYWHERE that I can get some good instruction on pin fitting, please share!! I am totally frustrated and reminded so loudly of James 1:12. It says, "Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life." This slip cover is giving me fits. I am usually one, who when things get tough or I just plain don't like doing it anymore, I quit. This is something that God is REALLY teaching me right now. Perseverance. I like instant gratification. Don't we all? But quitting would get me no where. I would still have naked, ugly, parsons chairs and no money to buy anything else. So I MUST keep going!! I know that when I have figured it all out, when I have learned how to slip cover correctly, the rewards will be wonderful. It won't be as hard and I will be able to make more with a lot more ease. But OH the agony of sewing and ripping out seams, sewing and ripping out seams..... Here is what I have so far. The part that is giving me trouble is the tucks.

Yes, this is a HAND SEWING NEEDLE!! I Finally got tired of having to redo everything. I got out a needle and thread and thought it would be faster just to hand stitch these areas before going to the machine. It really was easier because I had better control and I was sewing on the right side of the fabric. I was using a blind hemstitch. Then I realized that I cut the fabric a few inches too short!! UGH!! My solution is going to be a high ruffled skirt without any piping. I hope this takes care of the problem without me having to start over. This is day 2 of all of my free time devoted to this one project! Thankfully the shop is stocked and I don't have anything else I have to be doing.

So my persevering self is going to go and try and finish up the skirt! Hopefully I will have something to show for it tomorrow! For now, Here is a picture of a stocking that I made from some vintage lace, a vintage bark-cloth curtain panel, a vintage rhinestone button and a fleece lining. I've been working on so much Christmas, I am already ready to decorate my own house! It's my favorite time of year!!
Keep on Keepin' on my friends!! The benefit will far out way the suffering!!
Blessings and WAR EAGLE!!!!!

  1. Go to Miss Mustard Seed's today. She did a slip cover with a ruffle around it. Might work for what you need. I think the thing with slip covers is not to want perfection...

  3. Slipcovers can be a pain but they are so worth it. I had a problem with an inside corner and I put the word out to several slipcover queens. Google blog and slipcovers and then go and ask for help and you will receive it. Good luck.
