Parson Chair Slip Cover

WHEW! I finally got her done! I was actually very impressed with the painters canvas drop cloth. It is really soft and I used the finished edges for the skirt part so I didn't have to hem it!! HUGE bonus. It feels like a very heavy soft cotton. I used a gathering foot with a tension of 8 and a stitch length of 3.5 to get the gather good and tight. Pinning the skirt on first made it a lot easier to sew it in place. I did invest in some T Pins. I think these are a much needed tool for a project like this. They stay in place really well. Also make sure you wash the dropcloth first! I washed mine in hot water and dried it on hot high heat so that any shrinkage would happen before I put it together. It would be HORRIBLE to wash it and show those ugly legs again:)

I have to give a shout out to two people! One is to Okie Chic who gave me a GREAT blog to check out on slipcovers! Thank you so much for taking the time to slip me a little note! And also to the Pink Polka Dot for the great slipcover information! Ya'll go give them some love!

I am actually kind of glad that I cut it too short and had to do this skirt instead of a pleat. I am liking the romantic relaxed look.

I made a cute little pillow out of some fabric I found for 2 bucks at a yard sale. I have about 4 yards of it so I can do one for each chair. I put an antique brooch in the corner and it looks just precious! I love to buy these little beauties and these pillows will be a great display for 4 of them!

Here is a close up of the fabric and the gather. Don't look to close! It was definitely a learning piece! The other 3 should go a lot smoother now that I sort of know what I am doing!

Ya'll be safe tonight takin' the kiddos out to trick or treat!

  9. how did you prepare the drop cloth fabric prior to use. I HAD the instructions from one of the other bloggers, but can't find it. Something like washing three times, maybe bleach? Vinegar? Can't remember.
