I can never resist these little pieces when I see them. I found this one on craigslist a few weeks back. It belonged to a sweet girl named Margaret. I had arranged to go and get it when we had a serious plumbing issue and I had to dip into my business furniture fund. Thankfully she was gracious enough to be patient with me and I went and picked it up on Wednesday. I also bought a table with a leaf and 6 chairs to match.
It's amazing what you can do when the kids go back to school. That could be a Dr. Seuss book:O)
I got a china cabinet done, a coat of paint on a table and leaf, a mirror done and a photo shoot. For me, that's a pretty good days work considering I have to leave at 12.45 to pick up little bit.
I used a combination of three chalk paint colors, The new white, louise blue and country gray. I layered them until I achieved a desired effect and then began to distress with a wet rag bringing out some wood and the under colors. I finished with dark wax. I decided to leave the cabinet in it's natural state on the inside. I recently was inspired by a beautiful french cabinet in the new French Country magazine that had been painted. The wood was left alone on the inside. This cabinet has real wood shelves with a beautiful grain that was perfect for this.
Frenchy will be headed to Consigning Interiors in the morning. My new space gets painted this week and will be ready for moving in soon!

ReplyDeleteI am so stealing this look. This is the kind of thing I love about chalk paint. I have tried to achieve this look for years, but not always with success. Chalk paint allows you to layer, and make something truly look old through each layer. You did beautiful work. Love it.

ReplyDeleteKelli, this piece is AMAZING! LOVE how you layered your paint. I did a table today layering Paris Gray, Graphite and Versailles but I blended it with a brush. I like the effect of the wet rag better; makes it softer. Really cool! I've noticed with ASCP, I'm much happier with the results if I layer several colors on a piece. I don't know what I'd do if I had to stick to just one. GREAT JOB!

ReplyDeleteI, too, am not sure how you are distressing with a wet rag. Do you do small sections, layer on the color and wipe off with the wet rag while it is still wet? A video tutorial would be helpful.
